Personal Interests

Dr. Mitchell’s interests include a love of history, especially the history of Christianity. He also enjoys teaching adult Sunday School. In addition, he dabbles in off-shore fishing. His favorite pastime is spending time with his five grandchildren.

Biography

Dr. Mitchell grew up in Tallahassee, FL. He graduated from Leon High School, class of 1972. He then went off to attend the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, graduating in 1976. Next was the University of South Florida College of Medicine, in Tampa, FL, getting his MD degree in 1979. He then interned at the Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA. He spent three years as an Undersea Medical Officer in the Navy, caring for submariners and divers. Following that, he went to the Naval Hospital, Bethesda, MD, for his residency training in Dermatology, finishing in 1986, and passing his Board certification exam that same year. He then spent three years at Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, VA, followed by 8 years at Naval Hospital, Charleston, SC, the last four as Head of the Dermatology Department. Retiring from the Navy, he relocated to Thomasville, GA, where he has continued to practice Dermatology since 1997.
