Personal Interests
Dr. Barnes enjoys spending time with family and friends. She enjoys exercising at the local gym and playing tennis. She loves watching college sports and attending football games.
She loves to travel and has seen most of the United States. She has traveled to Europe many times as well. She also does medical mission trips with her church and has been to Nicaragua.
Dr. Barnes is married to Dr. James Thomas. She has one son and two step children. She has lived in Thomasville for ten years and considers this her home.
Biography
Dr. Barnes has known since age 10 that she wanted to become a physician and help others. After completing her undergraduate degree in chemical engineering at Auburn University, she began medical school at the University of South Carolina. She enjoyed many aspects of medicine but chose Dermatology as her major specialty. Dermatology allows you to see patients of all ages with all types of skin problems including rashes, hair and nail disorders, and skin cancers.
Dr. Barnes completed her Dermatology residency at the Medical College of Georgia. One of her passions is teaching medical students and residents. She began an Academic career at the University of Mississippi and was an Assistant Professor for 3 years. She began having a special interest in children’s health and skin issues and decided to further her training. She completed a Pediatric Dermatology Fellowship at the University of San Diego. She has continued to teach medical students and residents as she still teaches as a clinical associate professor at the Florida State Medical School while she sees patients in her clinical practice. She is devoted to the practice of medical and surgical dermatology. Her major areas of interests include acne, eczema, hair loss and skin cancer treatments.
